Enchanted

January 28, 2008

I have a confession: I am a sucker for fairytales. Yeah, my sarcastic heart secretly likes happily ever after of funny, goofy, swashbuckling, magical love. I swear no one likes fairytales as much as I do - not even a Disney princess brat. Be it fairytale books or movies, just give it to me and I'll gobble it up. I might even cry. *sniffles*

Er, anywho, just a few days ago I've seen the fairytale movie Enchanted. It's about princess Giselle (Amy Adams) banished by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon) from - oh, just watch this trailer if you haven't seen the flick:

Doesn't it look good? It reminds me how I missed the Disney fables of yore. And why I think James Marsden is a whoopsie (Oh Cyclops, must you always go the roles that don't get the girl?) I like that Patrick Dempsey is in there looking verra McDreamy. I like that it asks a question: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

Either give in or die...

Sometimes it saddens me that I live in a world where fairytales can't exist. Is it wrong to want happily ever after? I want stardust and fairies. I want true love's kiss. I want dream come true. I want unicorns flying over the freakin' rainbow. I want enchantment, that's all. I want to be enchanted. If it includes animal sidekicks and gnomes talking and dancing and singing, so be it.

I guess I'm still the awkward, silly little brat who wants my own Prince Charming. I don't think I've ever grown out of it. Or even if I have, deep inside, it's still within me. And it never really goes away.
