What Your Shoes Say About You

May 2, 2008

Are you a demanding diva or a down-to-earth mama? Look no further than your feet to find out.

If you really want to get in touch with your soul, look at your soles. "Shoes speak volumes about who you are. They represent your mood, your aspirations, even the way you conduct yourself," says shoe expert Meghan Cleary, a.k.a. Miss Meghan, author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You."

Strappy sandals say: "I'm a flirt." Like stilettos, strappy sandals highlight your femininity; but they give off a more playful, fun vibe, says Cleary: "They make you tall and beautiful, yet approachable." Strappy sandals also represent all things glamorous. "They're really for a woman who's looking to make a red-carpet-worthy entrance," she adds.

Flats say: "I'm friendly." The woman who wears flats is grounded, says Cleary. "She moves with ease, literally and figuratively. She's everyone's friend, and more often than not, she serves as the peacekeeper when the wearers of stilettos and strappy sandals start competing for the attention of men."

Platforms say: "Pay attention to me." "There's nothing like a platform to announce your presence," says Cleary. "You're taller than usual; some platforms are as high as eight inches!; and because the heel is so clunky, you make a lot of noise. These shoes are not for shy types."

Designer sneakers say: "I'm trendy and proud of it." The designer-sneaker girl is constantly zipping around town. But no matter how fast she may move, her shoes get her noticed, Cleary says. "They're her way of saying, 'I know the latest and greatest in culture, and I'm not afraid to show it.'"

Stilettos say: "I'm confident." The stiletto is the ultimate in feminine footwear, says Cleary. "Wearing stilettos forces you to stand tall and draws attention to your curves. They are the perfect pick for a woman who likes to be looked at and who isn't afraid of her sexuality."

Clogs say: "I'm creative." "Clogs have an artistic vibe about them," Cleary says. "The woman who wears them isn't going anywhere very fast; and she doesn't care, because she's too busy daydreaming about her next project."
