Like A Leaf

June 1, 2008

Are there times that you feel like you are a leaf that is blown by the wind?

You know, like you just go where the wind takes you. You just drift in space and have no say in whatever direction the wind wishes to take you. Maybe for a time you will feel so light and free that you might enjoy the ride, but do you know that when the wind got tired of you, she just tosses you back to the ground where you wither and people just trample over you.

It is very sad that many people are just like that. Their life has no direction. They have no goal in life. They just exist but not really living. They are like a smoke that disappears without a trace.

I hope people will take the time to pause and reflect on where their life is heading. I see and read about many young people waste their life on alcohol, drugs and sex. They do anything out of peer pressure. They like to be in, they said, not realizing that it is the way out of this world that they're heading. I hope, for their sake, that they stop before it's too late.

And so, my advice to them is never be like a leaf that is blown by the wind, rather be like a leaf that clings to the bough no matter how strong the wind may be. Hang in there and keep growing. Live and be fruitful.

People are Like Teabags

March 15, 2008

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or help you figure out who you are or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be: roommate, neighbor, professor, friend, lover. Even a complete stranger who, when you lock eyes with them, you know in that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you, and at the time they may seem horrible, painful, and unfair. But in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles, you would have never realized your potential, strength, will power, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good or bad luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere...safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. The people you meet who affect your life, and the successes and downfalls you experience, create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. Those lessons are the hardest and probably the most important ones.

People are like tea bags - you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are.
